On Thursday, Dec. 19th we got an earlier start and drove back to Sedona to the same trail we tried to take the day before. This time we were successful in finding a place to park in the "designated" parking area at the trailhead for "Soldier's Pass". The first feature we saw was a sinkhole called "the Devil's Kitchen".
The next feature we explored was a series of seven small pools called "the Seven Sacred Pools" that become a series of waterfalls when the area gets enough rain.
The surrounding cliffs also have some arches forming in the Sandstone that can be seen from the trail.
The Red Rock cliffs and monoliths around the trail were spectacular to view as we hiked into the desert around Sedona.
On Friday, Dec. 20th we went to a hiking trail just outside of Sedona called the "Devil's Bridge". We had to hike up a trail that started with what they call a road in Arizona. Think of a dry creekbed and that is what this "road" was like. No way, could you drive a normal passenger vehicle up it, high-clearance four-wheel vehicles had a hard time traversing it.
The sandstone cliffs were very interesting as we hiked along the trail.
The six-mile hike was worth it at the end, where we were fortunate enough to walk right up to the natural bridge.
