Page, Arizona

Hello Everyone,

We left Hurricane, UT on Saturday, Dec. 7th and drove 220 miles to Page, Arizona to explore Antelope Canyon and Horse Shoe Bend City Park.

First, Mom and Susie went out to explore "Canyon X" an awesome sandstone canyon carved by water in the famous Antelope Canyon, on the Navajo Indian reservation near Page, Arizona.

Because cute puppies like me are not allowed in the tribal parks, Dad and I stayed at the hotel and walked around town while Susie and Mom went to explore Canyon X.  Susie said this was the feature she enjoyed the most on her visit with us.

On Sunday, Dec. 8th we drove a short distance out of town to a newly remodeled park called Horse Shoe Bend that is operated by the city of Page, Arizona. A nice new parking lot with toilets and a well-maintained walking path of a little over a mile, leading to a newly completed viewing area complete with guard rails brought us to the edge of the cliff overlooking the mighty Colorado River.

Here are Dad and Susie standing on the newly completed observation point overlooking Horse Shoe Bend, looking down on a 1,200 to 1,500-foot drop into the Colorado River.

Then we drove another two hours South and West, to the East entrance of the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park. The North Rim section of the Park which is far higher than the South Rim was already closed for the winter, so we didn't try to go there.

Here is Dad showing how tired he was after driving to the Grand Canyon, and of course, clowning around again.

The first place we stopped on the South Rim of the canyon was the Desert View Overlook.  The weather had changed and grown much windier and colder on the way to the park, so we were very cold as we began to explore the Desert Tower and the overlook. It also began to rain, so we only took a few pictures then moved on.

Notice how muddy the river below looks after the recent snowstorm and the rain that was falling while we were there.

Next, we stopped to explore the Grand View Overlook but the weather hadn't improved much and the sky looked like it might snow any minute.

Lastly, we stopped at the Visitor's Center and walked out to Mather Point to take a few more pictures. Notice the snow on the trees in the canyon.

Afterward, we moved on to our hotel rooms in the Yavapai Lodge in the Grand Canyon Village.

Dinner that night was at the restaurant in the visitor's center. Surprisingly, they actually had some decent choices of vegan fare for Mom and Dad to enjoy, something that is rare in a National Park restaurant. Susie said she liked the choices they had for non-vegan travelers as well.

Tomorrow we will be exploring the western section of the park😊.
