Three Days in Lakeside

Hi Everyone,

Here we are in Lakeside, Montana, a nice small town on Flathead Lake, in north-central Montana. We are staying in a travel trailer, some people call them a pull-behind or a fifth-wheel. Dad calls it a tin can on wheels?!? Mom calls it a roof over our heads, I don't think she likes it.

Tuesday, July 16th, we drove around the end of Flathead Lake to Big Fork, Montana, and took a walk on the Swan River Nature Trail, where I met a lot of new people and several dogs with their human parents. It was a nice flat trail and we enjoyed not having to climb any torturous mountains for a change.

It started to rain just as we got back to the car and we decided to go back to Glacier NP one more time. There was one place we hadn't explored yet, Polebridge, on the North-West side of the park. Dad drove over some narrow windy, very bumpy roads to get us there. Wouldn't you know it, but when we arrived there were signs saying "no dogs allowed" again! I don't know what is wrong with these people? Here's Dad clowning around again.

Wednesday, July 17th, we drove to Lone Pine State Park, outside of Kalispell, MT. Then we went to the visitor's center and asked for directions to their hiking trails. Mom took a picture of Dad standing next to a stuffed Grizzly Bear so you could compare him to the bear and see how big they are. She also took some pictures of the wolves and mountain lion they also have on display. They are all big animals and I hope we don't meet any of them on our hikes.

We hiked several miles on mountain trails, where we saw White-tailed deer and I met a nice lady who was hiking during her lunch break. We ate lunch at a nice pavilion near the parking lot. It started to rain, so we went to a Costco that we passed in Kalispel where Mom bought some things for us while Dad and I walked around the parking lot until it started to rain again. After that, we drove back to Lakeside and Dad went to the Tamarack Brewery over on the next block to try a flight of their ales. Dad likes ales and he says that their's are very good.

Today, July 18th, we drove toward Big Fork where we had planned to hike, but the weather did not cooperate this time. When it began to pour rain we drove to a farm supply store instead and I got two treats from the very nice salespeople and Mom bought me a new supply of puppy treats and some new dog food for older puppies, like me.

We left there and drove down to the other end of Flathead Lake to the Mission Mountain Winery where I met a very nice lady who helped Mom and Dad taste some of their wines. It was lunchtime so they ordered a glass of Huckleberry Sangria and we ate lunch outside on a patio. Next, we went to Lake Mary Ronan State Park where we were planning to hike again, but there were no trails to hike on. So, we went to West Shore State Park, again hoping to do some hiking. No luck, it began to rain again!

Oh well, tomorrow is another day. We are planning to explore a ghost town😔.
