Well, we finally found the elusive Bighorn Sheep. They were right at the entrance to Kootenay National Park (coot-nee), grazing on the grass, flowers, shrubs, and bushes. I decided not to try to herd them because they didn't appear to me to be amenable to being bossed around. The people here refer to them as headbangers because during the rutting season the rams will accelerate up to 30MPH and ram their heads into each other to attach females to mate with. The winner gets the girl! It seems kind of silly to me.
All I have to do is look cute and I get all of the girls I want. So when we drove up into the park to the Kootenay Valley overlook where we met a whole group of women who told us they were on a "girl's only" weekend. They all loved me, of course, and I got plenty of petting and hugs, while Mom took a picture of the whole group for them. Dad says I'm a Chic magnet. The overlook was cool too.
After that, we went on a 5.5-mile hike to Dog Lake. Imagine that, these smart people named the lake after "Man's best friend", and I was allowed to go with Mom and Dad this time too. It was great and on the way, we met another Sheltie who could have been my twin sister. We rubbed noses and made friends right away to the mutual joy of both of our human parents.
When we got back to our apartment I was bushed and took a nap while Dad and Mom went to Radium Hot Springs inside the park to soak in the thermal waters.
Mom says it is the biggest and best hot tub she was ever in. They both said the view was spectacular from the hot pool, at 95F and the cool pool at 75F.
They also saw more Bighorn Sheep when they left to come home.
Tomorrow we are heading to Banff National Park and Lake Louise, the two most popular parks in Canada. Or, if it is raining we may try hiking some more trails nearer to Radium again.😊
