One Month - 6,000 Miles - 11 States - 2 Provinces

Hello Everyone,

Today, July 10th, we took a little down-time to collect our thoughts, relax a little and plan the next leg of our "Great Adventure". Mom wanted to take some more pictures of wildlife too. Right on cue, a big male Mule deer showed up in our neighbor's back lawn. He laid down for a while, chewing his cud and then got up to strip some leaves from a tree, while Mom and Dad snapped away with their cameras.

Notice the great big ears and no tell-tale white tail like the White-tailed deer in New York State. The velvet on his antlers is still present too. This guy is big too, about 250 lbs and well over 6 ft tall to the top of his antlers.

Bighorn Sheep are one of the most elusive creatures we have been pursuing in these mountains and until two days ago we had not been at all successful in finding any. Today again, we saw several and in several places around Radium BC, including right at the end of the block, we are staying on, in someone's front yard.

These guys were not the least bit phased by cars and trucks zipping by, less than 20 feet away, while they enjoyed a meal in the front yard of a house at the end of the block. Mom had a field day snapping away with her camera and a lady on her cellphone walked past within 5 feet of them and they just relaxed and chewed grass. They are big animals but appear to be very docile.

The local people refer to them as headbangers, because of their mating habits during the rutting season. It is said that the males ram each other so hard during mating season that the sound can be heard a mile away. Tough way to get a girl if you ask me?

In the afternoon we drove to Windermere Lake and took a small hike around part of the shore. It is a pretty alpine lake in the Columbia River valley of British Columbia.

The town of Invermere along one side of the lake has many nice shops and restaurants, numerous condos and a marina. Mom and Dad found a great restaurant called Fuze that served very good Vegan meals, so we ate dinner there three nights and I met and made friends with some very nice people from Calgary, Alberta this time.

Tomorrow we are moving on to Waterton Lakes National Park, which is the Canadian portion of Glacier National Park, in Montana.😋
