On Saturday, June 29th, we drove 30 miles on country roads where the speed limit is 70, and the local drivers always exceed that speed regularly. The place we visited is called "Goat Lick" which is just what it sounds like. There is a deep canyon along the middle fork of the Flathead River, where the steep canyon walls seep minerals which the mountain goats crave. While there, we saw two mother goats with two babies in tow.
In the afternoon, we took a nice hike in the Whitefish Hiking Trail system. It was fun and the view at Skyler Lake overlook was marvelous, well worth the effort to hike up there. We met a nice British couple who took a picture of us at the top of the overlook.
On Saturday, June 30th we took another hike outside of Glacier NP because I couldn't go on any hikes inside the park. This time we went back to the Whitefish Hiking Trail system and took a long hike that we thought went to a place called Beaver Lake. What we didn't know was that the trail didn't actually go to the lake, it just looped around near the lake.
Today, July 1st, we drove up to the Hungry Horse Reservoir near where we are staying in Columbia Falls, MT. The reservoir dam was very high and we had a nice walk around the dam, then drove down the road to an alpine lake. We took a hike around Lion Lake, where we encountered many mosquitoes, but we enjoyed it anyway. Then we drove back to the apartment we are staying in and I took a nice nap while Dad and Mom went back into Glacier NP and took another hike up to Rocky Point on Lake McDonald.
Signs like the one below are all over the place in Glacier NP, so Dad had to go to the store and buy a bear spray canister to make sure we are safe when we go hiking.
There are still many more places to explore in Glacier NP, so tomorrow Mom and Dad will be going back there to do some more hiking, while I relax at our apartment. See you then😌
