On Thursday, Oct. 31st we drove four miles North of Moab, UT, back into Arches National Park to do some more exploring. Our first stop was at the La Sal Mountains viewpoint.
From there we went to Artist's viewpoint where we saw several impressive vistas.
This one looks like a stone fortress.
Then on to the Courthouse viewpoint, where we saw the Courthouse Tower.
The Organ
The Three Gossips
The Tower of Babel
From there we moved on to the Balanced Rock, a huge monolith balanced precariously on a pedestal far above the desert around it.
From there we went to the Garden of Eden, where we discovered some rock climbers.
Then on to Panorama Point viewpoint where could see the entire Salt Valley area of the park.
After that, we went on to Fiery Furnace, an area that got its name from the heat waves that emanate from the rocks when the summer sun hits it in the afternoon. This maze of sandstone fins is so difficult to navigate that it requires a permit and a ranger to accompany hikers so they won't get lost.
From there, we drove on to Sand Dune Arch a few miles further into the park. This arch is back into a large section of sandstone fins and requires hikers to navigate a very narrow passage between huge spires on either side. Well worth the hike though.
Lastly, we drove on to Skyline Arch near the end of the park. It only required a short walk through the desert to capture a photograph of it.
In all, it was a fine day and we explored a large part of the park before returning home.
Tomorrow we plan to explore even more of Arches National Park😀.
