Hello Everyone,
On Saturday, July 17, we drove back to the Lake George parking area and found the trailhead to Barrett Lake and T J Lake up on Mammoth Mountain. The first lake we passed as we hiked up a rather steep but exhilarating trail toward Barrett Lake was of course, beautiful Lake George.
As we hiked up and up we came across a beautiful mountain cabin on the far shore of Lake George.
It appeared that the only way to get to the cabin was by boat from the opposite shore.
Our hike finally brought us to a small alpine lake called Barrett Lake.
Another half mile further on brought us to the second and much bigger and nicer T J Lake.
There was a nice trail that ran all the way around the lake for us to hike.
The majesty of these mountains is just awe-inspiring, they are so much bigger and higher than the Eastern mountains.
The picture below is taken from the top of a mountain, at over 9,000 feet.
Well, that's it for Mammoth Lakes, California, We all enjoyed our stay there so much we are already planning to come back.
The wildfire I told you about three days ago has been pretty much controlled, but there are several more burning thousands of acres in California, and especially in Oregon where there are thousands of firefighters trying to control some huge fires. At any given time there are dozens, sometimes hundreds of wildfires burning in the West.
Yosemite, here we come! Tomorrow we will be getting up early and leaving Mammoth Lakes to get to the National Park early so we can beat the hordes. See you thenš?
