Hi Everyone,
On Monday, July 12th, we drove back up to the Coldwater Campground at Mammoth Lakes, to huke up to Emerald Lake.
This one of several beautiful alpine lakes on the Eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada Mountain range, near Mammoth Mountain, and the village we are staying in Mammoth Lakes.
After visiting and exploring this pristine lake we decided to push on and hike further up the mountain to Skytop Meadow. The trail up was quite steep in places but followed a nice mountain stream most of the way.
The reward at the top was gratifying. A beautiful glade filled with wildflowers.
The sheer majesty of these mountains is even more impressive from the top of an adjoining peak.
Later, in the early evening, we drove back to Convict lake so Mom could take so more pictures. We took a more leisurely hike along one side of the lake, while Mom snapped away.
Unfortunately, we just learned that a wildfire has started near the area that we visited and explored yesterday. We can see and smell the smoke where we are staying because it is only 12 miles away. Presently we are in no danger, but we will monitor the progress, or lack thereof, in battling the blaze.
Tomorrow we will be making our first trip into Yosemite National Park😎.
