Today, October 14th is my human Dad's birthday. He is 69 today and we love him very much!
He does all of the driving on our great adventure, no matter how bad or scary the roads are to where we are going to explore. He helps Mom and me to hike up mountains and into the desert to see many interesting sites, and he introduces me to new friends at each place we visit.
Dad says I'm a "chick magnet". I'm not sure what that means, but the ladies seem to really like me, no matter where we go.
We had to drive back to the city of Durango, Colorado to the Subaru dealer for a new tire to replace the one that went flat last Friday as we drove over Wolf Creek Pass on Route 160.
We spent a quiet day shopping for supplies, finding a place to stay tonight, doing more long-range planning, and visiting the Subaru dealer to get the new tire and have the wheel alignment checked to be sure we would be safe on the rest of our great adventure.
We took one last walk in the town park of Mancos, CO. this morning before we left to drive back to Durango. It is a very nice park for such a small community and something they should be proud of since many larger cities don't have anything nearly as nice for their citizens to enjoy.
We took a last look at Mesa Verde on the way. The mesa on the left is the entrance to the park and has to be ascended on a steep switch-back road several hundred feet up to the top to see the ruins of the cliff dwellings, which are the centerpiece of the national park,
This statue is a native Indian artist's rendition of an Indian climbing the cliff wall using hand-holds and toe-holds while carrying a heavy load. This is located directly in front of the visitor's center.
Dad received many messages from well-wishers for his Birthday which made him very happy.
We did find a "riverwalk" in Durango that we will try to walk on tomorrow before we head out for the "Hovenweep National Monument' near Blanding, Utah😊.
