Central Idaho - Eastern Washington

Hello Everyone,

We left northern Idaho Thursday morning, Dad and Mom and I drove for several hours through miles and miles of wheat fields, sometimes whole hills full of wheat fields for a far as the eye could see. There were grain elevators about every five miles, and huge machines harvesting the wheat into great big trucks and hoppers to be hauled to the grain elevators.

Dad said he knew they grew potatoes in Idaho, but he didn't know they grew this much wheat as well. Near the end of our journey, we had to drive down a very steep mountain, across a big bridge that spans the Snake River into Lewiston, Oregon.

Wow is it hot! Thursday, Aug. 1st, when we arrived at Lewiston, OR the temperature went up to 102.
The next day,  Friday, Aug. 2nd it was 100, so we only explored the nearby state park.

Here's Dad doing his thing at the state park. Notice the name of the park. Yep, Hell's Gate State Park is its name and it felt just about that hot too!.

We only walked along the Snake River for about 2 miles because it was far too hot for me and my parents. We did see some interesting rock formations on the other side of the river, about a half-mile across. This one resembles the "Rock of Gibraltar" and just jutted up all by itself out of the riverbank on the other side of the valley. The little dot near the middle of the lighter part of the picture below is a passing truck on the highway, to give you some perspective of this granite outcroppings' size.

We stopped at the visitor's center and there was a small garden outside the building with a nice statue depicting a mountain lion in its natural habitat.

On Saturday, Aug. 3rd drove a few more hours to WallaWalla, Washington. No, I didn't stutter, that's the name of a small city in the eastern part of the state of Washington. It was a nice place and we explored the business district for a while but the temperature was very hot again; it was 98. The hotel we are staying at has a pool so both of my parents took turns cooling off while I stayed in the room with the air conditioner running constantly.

Tomorrow we are going to explore Hell's Canyon National Recreation Area, the deepest canyon in North America (8,000ft deep)😃.
