Canyonlands National Park

Hi Everyone,

On Sunday, Nov. 3rd we drove out  Kane's Creek Road outside of Moab, planning to hike up Hunter Canyon, but we found a marathon in progress on the road a few miles outside of town. Instead, we decided to explore Moon Flower Canyon and a cliff dwelling we happened across on the way.

Moon Flower Canyon turned out to be a box canyon with a very small pond at the end and a nearly dry creek.

Later we drove to the other side of the city to Millcreek Canyon to see Millcreek Falls but found the trail had to cross the creek and decided to turn back rather than get our feet wet on such a cold day.

On Monday, Nov. 4th we drove into the city of Moab to explore their city park system. It was very nice and we went for a walk on the Millcreek Parkway, a wonderful cement walkway that runs through the center of the business district.

The walkway is complete with works by local artists and was very well maintained. Dad captured a rare photograph of me and Mom as we enjoyed the warm sunshine.

In the afternoon I stayed home to take a nap while Dad and Mom drove 30 miles to Canyonlands National Park to do some more exploring there.

First, they went to Grandview Point where they found a great overlook and trail along the rim of the canyon. This immense canyon is created by the mighty Colorado River and the Green River coming together to carve out a meandering riverbed that traverses more than one hundred miles of this very rugged landscape. This river gorge is about half as deep and half as wide as the Grand Canyon.

From there they went to Orange Cliffs overlook.

Then on to  Buck Canyon overlook.

Lastly, they drove back to Mesa Arch again to explore the arch in bright sunlight instead of early morning sunrise as they had before. The view was breathtaking.

Tomorrow if the weather cooperates we expect to go back to Arches NP and finish exploring that marvelous place once morešŸ˜„.
